Videos For Church Mobilization Overview
Question From: John Stelzer -- Where can I find 10 minute videos to be used in a church service to promote missions without pulling a major plug for a mission agency...? A short "video produced by ABC Missions" at the end is no problem.
Answer From:(Nate Wilson) I think CALEB PROJECT's videos would suit your purpose. They are slide compliations rather than moving pictures, but the photography is high quality. This year we hope to start with motion video profiles. Our stuff is generally about 12 min. long, profiling particular unreached people groups and giving prayer points.
You could also get the footage from "Pray through the Window --100 Gateway cities;" that's generic--produced by CBN. Specific cities in the 10/40 window are highlighted for maybe 2 minutes each. Ask Katherine Carlton how to get a copy--she produced it, so she should know, but give yourself time for her to answer, she's really busy. The USCWM has some good generic stuff out on different people groups. I think the call it Global Countdown 2000. If I'm remembering the right one, the the profiles are like an hour long, but are subdivided into 15 minute segments. Call 1-800-MISSION.
Also check out the unreached people video profiles that CREATE INTERNATIONAL produced.
InterVarsity's video FRIENDS would also be good--covers ministry to International students. (Slide compilation, well-done)
Answer: "...InterAct Ministries has produced two videos [THE CALL and COUNTDOWN] as part of an integrated missions presentation, that also includes brochures and a script for the presenter. InterAct Ministries Attn: Media Services 31000 SE Kelso Rd., Boring, OR USA" Interesting town to live in, but the videos are neat. Not your normal misso type stuff. Particularly Countdown. Awesome. Check out the end scenes. -- "John Burgess"
Answer: I just watched a great video from Mars Hill Productions called "Generation" I think. It was focused on the younger generation of our day, but really spoke to me on missions. It was very, very powerful. I don't think that it has been released yet and the version which I saw was a pre-production release, I think... Anyways, look into it. -Mike Clinton
Answer From: Paul Schultz
Have you...seen this article in Brigada today..."JP2000 VIDEO IS A WINNER! --...It's a 13-minute overview of the JP2000 concept, complete with interviews with key mission leaders like John Robb, Patrick Johnstone, and Luis Bush. Also included is footage from meetings such as GCOWE '95, the Launch, and the Himilaya event...grab your $9.95 and =run=, don't walk, to John ...=includes= shipping and handling costs to any USA destination! ...John's tel. is 719-380-0505..." I ordered one of these v ideos and was very impressed with how concise it was. It was very well done, and I would recommend it highly. Besides, it was inexpensive. I am planning on showing it to my Sr. High Sunday School class as well as the Mission Task Force of my church. Don't forget the popcorn.

There is a very good 10 minutes long video called "DOING YOUR BIT" designed to explain unreached and adopt-a-people. It can certainely be obtain at the US Center as well as they helped producing it.
Answer From:
U.S. Center for World Missions has a "GLOBAL COUNTDOWN" series. At the moment they have done India, Central Asia, and Mexico. They also have a "How to Adopt-a-People" video, but the quality isn't as good as the Global Countdowns which are excellent productions. The "Light The Window" video is now a little dated, but the short 8 minute version is still a good introduction to the mission movement at the end of this century. Produced by CBN and Caleb Project, it lays the groundwork for the next "Pray Through the Window III" video (not the title) to come out. Wycliffe has also produced a few videos to illustrate their particular kind of work of Bible translation. Behind The Sun Open Doors has produced a video called "Behind the Sun". It is an excellent presentation of the problems that national believers in Muslim countries are
facing. The video chronicles the adventures/trials of a man returning to his home (Muslim) country after converting to Christianity during his college days in the US. It is
about 1 hour long, and is extremely well done (I've heard over 1 million was spent to make the video). Although the man's story is fictional (I think), the events/ situations
that he encounters are not - according to those familiar with the middle-east. I highly recommend this video. It is both informative and exciting. Available from Open Doors,

Breaking The Silence-Persecuted Church I just saw a copy of this half-hour video produced by WEF for the Sept'96 Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. It is NOT
dated, so you can still order copies to develop awareness within your circle of influence. The video primarily consists of footage of well-known American Christian leaders
giving brief calls to action on behalf of the persecuted church. The footage on persecution is minimal and not very intense. The video strongly encourages prayer and political
activism as responses. One part seemed corny when Max Lucado, did a video interview with Michael Horowitz, and Josh McDowell, but overall the quality is high. Contact

Kacwm Dagestan From: Global Prayer Dgest, Aug 29, 1995, fwarded by Mardi Smith "The Dagestani peoples are fascinating!" commented Jim in a letter to his friends in the
United States. Then writing about the video he had just finished editing, he said, "With God's help I was able to cover certain aspects of the people's lives, such as their
traditional dances, farming, rug making, seances, and praying in the world's third oldest mosque. I believe the video will inspire the church to pray with a greater focus on

Make A Difference: Mobilizing Your Church To New Mission Vision A bunch of us did a quick videotaping at the close of Chicago's ACMC conference. Larry Wright of
Proclamedia is in his final editing phase, and I'll be finishing the accompanying manual next week. "Make a Difference " is basically a four session training package for
mobilizers. If a church can't attend a "What's After October?" Seminar, this package gives them about the same thing. It keys them into the basic, resource- matched steps of
moving a fellowship into intelligent activism. I think Larry was saying the package price will be $39. Available September 15th, it's one of the new resources we're hoping good
ol' Ern at William Carey Library will carry. That way, when anybody says, "How do I start encouraging my fellowship toward more outreach and missions?" we all can say, "Call
800-MISSION."

Maya Mopan Indians Belize, Central America is home to some 6,000 Maya Mopan Indians Through this video you will learn about their history and past church planting
efforts among them. You will also be challenged as you hear of the great need which still exists. [Matt just recently finished producing this 10-minute video based on his
several years of experience in Belize, and I got to see it a couple of weeks ago. Nice footage of jungle scenery (and animals) and of the Maya people; missionary interviews
could have been a little more fast-moving, though. It documents a classic case of non-contextualization in missions which has resulted in plenty of church buildings and
meetings, but almost no true understanding of the Gospel in this unreached people group.--NW]

Perspectives From: Amy Barstad. The new Perspectives promo video is here! It is upbeat and positive and only a little over 4 minutes long. This means you can show it in
your church service, Sunday School classes, Home Groups, Bible Studies and to pastors and leaders. The purpose is to prick the interest of the average Christian who has never
heard of Perspectives. It begins in a GenX style with people telling the typical reasons why they wouldn't be interested in Perspectives. The bulk of the video is filled with
testimonies of pastors, GenXers, Moms, Retired folks of how God used Perspectives to revive their lives. It was produced in partnership with a local Colorado PSP coordinator,
Bill Scott, our Caleb Project Media Dept. (that produced "To the Ends of the Earth" and Light the Window") and Bill Coffin at Joyco studio. We spent close to $2,000 so we would
like to recover some of the costs, so order now! US$8 through Caleb Project. Send orders to "abar!". Please include your mailing address.

The Call/Countdown InterAct Ministries has produced two videos as part of an integrated missions presentation, that also includes brochures and a script for the
presenter. The idea is to capitalize on the strengths of each of these presentation tools for moving boomers (primarily) to missionary service. <The Call> is a 5 minute
dramatic spoof about what happens to one man who tries to escape the call on his life. <Countdown> is 16 minutes in length and very offbeat--definitely not your usual
missions video! Utilizing interviews, old movie clips, animation and effects it challenges viewers to consider the brevity of life and how they can make their lives count for
eternity through missionary service. Although the brochures are specific to InterAct's work, the video and script are generic enough (the name InterAct is never mentioned,
although the fields are represented) that practically any organization can use them to mobilize people towards missionary service. The integrated presentation which includes
both videos is available for $10 (postage included) through InterAct Ministries, 31000 SE Kelso Road, Boring, OR 97009; or email: or phone: 1.800.258.3464. -- Submitted by:

Tragedy In Sudan Sudan has one of the highest populations of priority unreached peoples of all the countries in the world. This new video from VOM has stunning footage
on the Islamic regime that is persecuting the Christians in Sudan, as well as a heart-rending view into the lives of the Christians who have been devastated. The tag at the end
of the video about the Christian relief network that VOM is assisting was not enough to erase the horror in my mind after I watched it. There are some violent images on this
video which require discretion in choosing your audience, but I believe that it should be shown to our churches to wake them up to the reality of what's going on in Sudan. $15

What Are You Going To Be? (GenX peice by TEAM) TEAM has a brand-new 15-minute video that I saw a couple of weeks ago, and I highly recommend it! It is designed to
challenge college students to consider missions as a career. (It'll work well with groups a little older or younger than the college crowd, too.) The quality of the video is
excellent--the kind of video work that young people are accustomed to seeing on T.V., and it gives a very appropriate challenge that is inspiring rather than guilt inducing.
What makes this even better is that, although TEAM produced it, they don't mention TEAM until the tag at the end; making this video usable for a mission mobilizer in any
organization! To get a copy, email Glen Felty --TEAM is giving this video out for free, but I think it only appropriate that we pay TEAM for this tool if we use it to recruit
for another mission agency.
